I don’t usually like creatures like these, but this one has captured my imagination. He first appeared on the porch. No matter what side I sat on, he moved close to me. It was like he was saying, “You want to play tag.” As I watched him, I was fascinated by the speed and agility in which he moved from one area to the next. Then, I started discovering him in other areas of the property. He is a Broadhead Skink. I know he is male because the male’s head turns red like a fire truck during mating season. They are completely harmless, and they are helpful by killing other creepy things like spiders and mice (my other least favorite species). If you see one in your yard, you probably don’t have snakes. So be careful and “look”, where you walk. So don’t miss this playful creature.
