Day 93 Stop and Look 365

History on Glass

You don’t want to forget to look up at the stained glass windows at the Monastery. Stained glass has been around for thousands of years. Many of the windows tell of events that took place in the Bible or highlight the life of a Saint. Stained glass was a way to tell a story the church wanted people to know. Remember, most people couldn’t read in the earlier centuries. There is a Pliny tale that says, a sailor set their cooking pots on blocks of natron (soda) which is a natural compound of sodium salts used for cooking
and making medicines). It melted into the beach and stained glass was formed. Or you could credit the Romans and Egyptians with its creation. I like the Pliny tale. I also love to marvel at these beautiful windows. Go look up and explore.
