Cherry Blossom 2023
Look at these beautiful trees. Did you know that the Cherry Blossom is Japan’s national flower. They are called “sakura,” which are a symbol of love and tenderness. In Japan, the trees are a symbol of renewal and hope. In the U.S. they are a symbol of friendship and hope between the two countries. There are 200 varieties of Cherry Blossom trees in DC. We mainly have the Yoshino hybrid version. Japan gave us 2000 tress 1910, but they were infrsted with insects. So they had to be destroyed. Then they gave us another 3,000 around 1912. We have a lot of trees in our area, but Macon, Georgia, is credited with over 350,000 trees. It is a tradition to have a picnic under the trees in Japan. Or you can just take a stroll around the Tidal Basin. But, you only have one week of bloom time. Whatever the way you choose, you will enjoy their beauty.
